Yahoo! Repeats MIcrosoft's DRM Server Mistake

Now we know: Microsoft and Yahoo! are perfect for each other. Despite watching Microsoft's recent debacle when it announced it was going to shut down the licensing servers for their defunct Music Store - a debacle which resulted in Microsoft reversing its decision - Yahoo! decided to try to do the same thing.

Napster Goes All MP3, DRM-Free

Napster, once the bane of the RIAA and now, as you know, legit, made big news at CES 2008 when it announced that it was planning to offer its entire catalog in the unprotected MP3 format. And while Amazon MP3 made a big splash last year when it launched, numbers-wise, Napster has them easily beaten with 6 million MP3s now available, as of Tuesday.

Defunct MSN Music Store Gives Us Another Reason to Hate DRM

As if we needed still another reason to hate DRM (copy-protection or digital rights management) - whether it be of video, software, or music - here's another one. You'd figure a company as large as Microsoft would be able to commit to supporting DRM'ed products for as long as necessary, but apparently you'd be wrong.
